Saroja is a Dutch artist, recently based in Portugal. She lived and worked for many years in Pollensa, Majorca, Spain were she is called La Colorista.
She also lived many years in India, were she started painting with oil on canvas in 1988.
Saroja had exhibitions in a lot of different countries like India, France, Spain, Holland, Germany, Portugal and USA and her work can be found in private collections all over the world.
Saroja's paintings vary from very small to very big.
Being as well a musician it is in Saroja's art like in music expressing inner emotion without representing the real world.
Abstraction going into Impressionism or Impressionism going into Expressionism.

"I love Experimenting with colours in abstract paintings, using oil with the pallet knife, which often turn out as landscapes, seascapes, clouds or cosmic vibrations. Some are very vibrant, emotional, with strong colours, others are just very quiet monochromes with shades of one tone, all creating a certain feeling or atmosphere.
Sometimes I might use a bright colour under layer of acrylic in contrast of the colours used in the main painting. These translucent effects give a special depth to the artwork.
I paint intuitive, emotional, mostly without a special thing in mind.
For more than 30 years I have been working on my own style with oil paint and palletknife.
My biggest inspiration is nature itself with all its colours and movements and warmth.
You are welcome to have a look in my Studio."

Saroja's travels throughout Europe and Asia tint every one of her oils. The abstract interplay of glowing sunlight and roiling cloud, of reflective warmth and dispassionate blue describe the phenomena of nature at their most brilliant and memorable moments. Whether the focused intensity of bursts of crimson and scarlet energy at the edge of the volcano, or the glimpse of distraction evidenced by the October palette of the Balearic coastline, Saroja's works reveal themselves firmly with the splendor of an ocean sunrise and the animation of the Northern lights.

The tones of Saroja's oils are strong and balanced, a panoply of the shades of living nature in fleeting daylight. There is movement on the canvas, power and energy striving forward to a point of resolution and tranquility. Vertical saffron strokes evoke a sense of motion in a sunlit sky; abrupt splashes of turquoise on blue the flashes of cresting waves on surging Pacific seas; vague horizons in orange and green mirroring the skyline view from the balcony of a Mallorcan villa at the close of day.
